The Need for Speed
Posted by anastasia on 01-14-2005Bolt put out a press release today about their Quarterly Tracking Study. It sounds like they are definitely now a marketing agency in addition to a Web destination. Today's release focuses on how much more time teens are spending online as a direct result of broadband (faster connections). From the release:
"70% of online Gen Y's (15-22 year olds) accessed the internet with a broadband connection in Q4, an 11% increase over Q3.
Of those teens accessing the internet through a broadband connection, 50% use a cable modem, 44% use DSL, and 6% access the internet through a T1/T3 line.
Blogging sites saw the most significant increase between Q3 and Q4 this year, with a 39% jump, bringing blogging penetration to 25% among teens.
66% of teens report being online while watching television at least some of the time, while a remarkable 16% reporting they are online while watching TV almost all the time. Not surprisingly, with online usage on the rise, 55% of teens report that they are watching less TV than they were this time last year."
Bolt says they see this reflected on their site where Bolt photos have seen a 27% increase in uploads per user between Q3 and Q4. Other big take away — with faster connections (blogging, photos, online gaming, online video and other tools), Gen Y has begun to create their own programming…
