Leave Me Alone!
Posted by anastasia on 03-25-2005Teens need their privacy and ironically they are finding it on the very public Web. AOL Red released a survey reported in the New York Post that said:
"…Half of the country's teenagers would rather open up and discuss their feelings with a blog than with their parents.
In addition, a majority of teens said they are turning to blogs over traditional Web sites because they are more entertaining and humorous, the survey, taken by AOL's red service, which is aimed at teens, revealed.
And teens are very snobby about who they would let into their blog world.
The survey showed that 67 percent would opt for a velvet rope strategy that kept out all but their closest friends."
And here are some stats that back up what most of us already know — teens like sites where they can communicate with each other (thanks Chris!):
"According to comScore Media Metrix, more than 14 million Americans age 13 to 17 accessed the Internet in January 2005. The recent edition of The Score focuses on the Internet behavior of this highly sought after demographic segment.
A significant proportion of the average teen's time online is spent connecting with peers whether it's instant messaging, blogs or e-mail, says the report. Sites that facilitate or promote teen communication were among the highest ranked properties by composition of users age 13 to 17."

Only problem is that it was the AOL Red survey was only of 250 teens. Seems pretty low to me.
