Will Live 8 'Feed the World'?

I remember the images from the original Live Aid vividly - Mick & Tina, the "Borderline" Madonna, "Champion" Freddy Mercury (RIP)…But did I do anything as a tweenager back then? No. I sang along to "Let them know it's Christmas Time" and drooled over Simon Le Bon, made fun of the U.S. version "We are the world"…I even learned about apartheid after watching the "I Don't Want to Play Sun City" video on MTV. So I guess my awareness was raised. Here we are again 20 years later doing the same thing for the same issues with Live 8.
Boomtown Rat and "Saint" Bob Geldof says this time it's "not for charity but for political justice." Well, I hope they raise craploads of money b/c I don't think political justice will happen any time soon.
I don't know where I'm going with this except to wonder whether Live 8 or the One Campaign will actually do anything except raise awareness (and hopefully craploads of money)? And um, I guess they do raise awareness when you watch the Spice Girls reunite or if you happen to catch Brad Pitt in a "One" commercial, but then we all just sink back into our comfy recliners, scoop up another handful of Doritos and wait for the new episode of "Pimp My Ride."
It seems like you just got to go there to really be affected by what's going on — there meaning places like Africa. It inspired Bob to become a mega-event planner and Angelina Jolie to become a UN ambassador. Jolie was so changed she suggested that troubled American teens go to Africa to get some perspective:
She said, "The doctor was probably going on about my father and mother while I was doing acid on the weekends and bleeding underneath my clothes. [Jolie was a teenage cutter]
"I think now that if somebody would have taken me at 14 and dropped me in the middle of Asia or Africa, I'd have realised how self-centred I was, and that there was real pain and real death real things to fight for. I wouldn't have been fighting myself so much.
"I wish when I was thinking about suicide, I'd have seen how many people are dying each day that have no choice in the matter. I would have appreciated the fact that I had a choice."
Forget about "Brat Camp," Just send em' to Africa!
