Ypulse Essentials: Hamburg Edition

Posted by anastasia on 06-02-2005

Straight from rainy Hamburg, hours before "the speech"…

- UthTV (it's like Current but for teens and it's based in San Francisco and will begin airing its programming on the Bay Area's UPN…very cool. Thanks David!)
- Funny how 'cool hunters' seemed to be named Josh (I was aware of Josh Rubin's Cool Hunting and have now been made aware of Josh Spear's similar trend blog)
- Jimi all your money (the folks who make Jimi, a wallet for people who hate wallets, have been wanting me to show them some Ypulse love for awhile…They're going after the young hipster market and are hoping to get distribution in stores like Urban Outfitters)
- Scion getting props from hip-hop community (artists once skeptical of corporate sponsorship say Scion is doing it right) (Pacific News Service)
- Rock lobster phone (Virgin Mobile is creating a phone in Europe specifically for 16-30 year-olds called the Lobster 485) (press release)
- Alloy to spin off merch biz (the new company has yet to be named…includes the dELiA*s, Alloy and CCS brands and will sell apparel, accessories, footwear, room furnishings and action sports equipment directly…) (press release)
- The Sisterhood of selling products (we know the "pants" are Levis, now the movie is teaming with P&G's Beinggirl.com to promote Herbal Essences, Tampax and other products) (press release)
- Chappelle's Show flying off the shelves (fastest selling DVD of all time) (Lost Remote)
- Feed the World (Live Aid becomes Live 8…Bob Geldof returns as organizer, AOL to broadcast the concerts…there's also a funny controversy over whether or not the Spice Girls will play the concert. Critics say "tell me what you really really want" isn't serious enough stuff for Live 8) (PSFK) (Billboard Post Play)
- MTV to launch Tempo (MTV's latest conquest, the Caribbean) (Reuters)
- Radio station adopts iPod format (mixing genres) (SF Gate)
