What's Not Cool

The November Campus Trends newsletter is out from the Student Monitor -- There's a bunch of research about male grooming (Last year college men spent approximately $320 million on grooming products!) and campus television (32 percent of students aware of their campus TV network watch it, mtvU has best campus TV brand awareness, etc.), but the fun stuff is at the bottom from their Campus Trends Panel. They asked the panel what isn't cool. Survey says:

- IMing (it's being replaced by texting)
- Celeb-driven reality shows (sorry Martha)
- 50/50 split on jeans over $100 for women
- TV news (they'd rather watch "Seinfeld" reruns)

One thing that is still cool is volunteering -- who needs to watch coverage of hurricane Katrina when you can make a difference: "almost 20% of panelists told us they've been volunteering their time and organizing campus-supported shipments of supplies to hurricane victims"...

In a related note, Ypulse reader Noah gives his 10 tips for how to reach college students (hint: advertise on Facebook....)
