How's My Driving?
Posted by anastasia on 01-06-2006This week the big CES show has been happening in Vegas and is being covered everywhere. It still amazes me that a show where big companies like Yahoo! and Google making "serious announcements" still features scantily clad "booth babes." I digress. I spotted this press prelease from one of the companies debuting its product at CES. The first graph reads:
"Intelligent Mechatronic Systems Inc., a world leader in telematics systems, is proud to debut DriveSync, an innovative GPS vehicle tracking system at this year's Consumer Electronics Show (CES).
…DriveSync provides parents with a clear picture of their teen's driving behavior, including speeding and aggressive driving habits. Prepared with this information, parents can discuss with their teen issues of driving safety, responsibility and accountability. Likewise, DriveSync can help parents measure their teen's driving progress, and set driving privileges accordingly."
Of course it's being marketed to both parents of teens and commercial fleet owners. I love that it can actually set privileges. Does it have the conversation around setting those privileges with teens as well?
Do you think parents will start using this technology?

I would use it if my teen screws up (ticket, accident) and I have to monitor them. I wouldn't install it from the get-go.

I think it's not neccessary for parents to do that to their kids unless they mess up, but even then we're not all perfect!

I think this device can enhance safety of kids, and as a result that of the others. Parents need to introduce it as a safety tool. Also, if an insurance company would give my son a discount for using it, I am sure he would appreciate it.
