Roofies Are Not A Joke

I don't laugh when people make jokes about roofies or GHB, and I can't tell you how many times I've heard these jokes before. Someone very close to me had this happen to them so this issue is personal. I was moved to post about this after last night's espisode of Veronica Mars. For any of you who watch, the series has been dealing with the issue of rape on campus all season. The rapist uses the drug GHB to render his victims unconscious and then shaves their heads and rapes them. It's pretty hardcore. Fans of the show know this already happened to Veronica in high school, so when it almost happened again last night, you might have been like me, yelling at the TV for Logan (her boyfriend) to get to her before the rapist did. I thought the way they portrayed what was happening to her once she was drugged felt intensely real and scary. I just wanted to commend Rob Thomas and the writers of VMars for helping to raise awareness about the issue of date rape in general and date rape drugs specifically. I would love to see a slick PSA campaign on this issue produced for high school and college age women. If one exists, let me know.
