How Generation M Multitasks

Posted by anastasia on 12-12-2006

The new Kaiser report is out — I haven't had time to read it in-depth yet, but here are the key takeaways from the highlights:

The boob tube still sucks teens in:
"When they are a young person’s primary activity, tv and videogames are the least multitasked media, while reading and computer activities such as instant messaging, computer games and looking at websites are the most multitasked."

19 percent of teens refuse to multitask
"Most young people media multitask at least some of the time, but some don’t do so at all."

Girls media multitask more than boys (this makes sense to me since a lot of it is socializing on IM)

Multitaskers are also media junkies:
"Young people who are 'heavy' media multitaskers consume nearly twice as much media as those who are 'light' multitaskers."

Homework…Give me a break!
"Many teens use media while doing their homework, especially if they’re doing homework on the computer."
