YouthTalks…Time To Listen

The YouthTalks website and podcast are ready for prime time! YouthTalks was an experiment in creating a Ypulse podcast driven by teens. I worked with a group of incredibly bright and talented San Francisco teens at the Bay Area Video Coalition to produce YouthTalks — we met weekly for over three months, beginning with an editorial meeting, going through drafts of copy, recording interviews "in the field," then in the recording studio, and finally using ProTools for the edit.
Apart from giving these guys some articles to read and a few factoids to add to their commentary and making sure the topics chosen would appeal to you, Ypulse readers, this work is their own. They designed the website, wrote and performed the music, wrote each segment and edited it all together. I actually know nothing about podcasting — and neither did they. They were all video students, and BAVC could only give us cameras. So we actually went out and recorded audio with big video cameras and boom pole mics.
Unfortunately, the time commitment for me to continue working with the crew right now on a volunteer basis has become too much (given my last post), so episode two will be on hold until we can find a generous sponsor(s) who can help subsidize the effort/my time spent. The teens were being paid through BAVC as interns. But for me it truly was a labor of love. I hope you enjoy it — we know it's a little long, and if we get the chance to create another one, I think it would only improve, but overall I'm very pleased with the work they've done.
