Ypulse Essentials: Mashing Up The Force, MyBLOC, Causes on Facebook
Posted by anastasia on 05-25-2007Note from Anastasia: Ypulse reader Charlie wrote in with a suggestion that I make the Ypulse Essentials headlines more descriptive so he can know right away if there's something in there for him. I usally have to many links to list all the content in a headline, but I can definitely list three highlights. I also think it's probably better for search engines crawling the site. So I'm trying it today — let me know what you think!
EyeSpot somehow convinced George Lucas to release video (for fans to mash up on StarWars.com. Yay!) (WSJ via NewTeeVee)
- MyBLOC (a new social networking site for young activists of color - love it) (WireTap)
- 'Pirates of the Carob Bean' (PETA's latest attempt to reach youth with their pro vegetarian message)
- Young soldiers live on (In the spirit of Memorial Day, check out this article about the MySpace profiles of fallen U.S. soliders in Iraq - thanks Eric!) (AP via Yahoo! News)
- Mary-Kate high on her new role (The former "Olsen twin" to join the cast of "Weeds." I wonder if this hurts the Mary-Kate and Ashley tween brand at all with parents…My gut says no, the parents of their teen fans probably aren't even aware of "Weeds") (EW's PopWatch)
- LG 15's UK sibling launching in July (on Bebo) (Reuters)
- Join the cause (Facebook launches "Causes on Facebook." The skinny: "They can create a cause, or promote an existing one to their friends Pick from 1.5 million non-profits in the U.S. It uses Facebook’s 'feed' feature to notify friends when you’ve joined a new cause. Finally, it allows you to promote the cause in other ways, building up points through a reward system, letting you show off virtual trophies that you win on your profile page after say, donating money." Cool. Also, Facebook now has its own ecosystem.) (Venture Beat) (Tech Crunch)
- College kids don't know your brand's 'country of origin' (unless you're IKEA) (AdAge.com, reg. required)
- More virtual worlds! (with young people buying and drinking virtual Pepsis in Virtual Laguna Beach, you can bet MTV will keep building 'em) (Broadcasting & Cable)
- No child left inside (clever name! From Wild Birds Unlimited, a campaign to get kids interested in birds)
P.S. Have a great LONG weekend. I'm taking my cue from No child left inside and plan to unplug and head to the woods. Back on Tuesday with more Ypulse goodies. Don't forget to register for the Mashup before May 29th for 20 percent off.
