Ypulse Essentials: Children Of The Web, Dollars For Darfur, Digital Footprints

Posted by anastasia on 06-22-2007

Aly & AJBubblegum pop off the charts (interesting Guardian piece about how tween pop acts like Aly & AJ are selling hundreds of thousands of albums outside of traditional mainstream music channels)

- Children of the Web (BusinessWeek's cover story on how the internet has made marketing to youth a global affair)

- Banning 'Manhunt 2' (Take-Two studio has suspended plans to sell its latest uber violent video game, which has already been banned in Britain. See Shaping Youth's take on this as well. Plus is there such a thing as video game addiction? And, I screwed up yesterday's link in the newsletter to the CNN story about family's who game together) (PCWorld)

- Dollars for Darfur (two high school students harness MySpace to raise over $300K) (Indy Star)

- Yahoo! buys Rivals (while other bloggers speculate on who might buy Yahoo!, Jerry Yang went and bought a high school and college sports site to beef up Yahoo! Sports) (AdAge.com, reg. required)

- MTV revives 'Unplugged' (gasp. You mean a program featuring music?) (USA Today)

- iTunes launches its own music fest (in the UK…I wonder if they will reproduce it stateside) (via Influx Insights)

- The Levis phone (hmmm…no desire here. I think this only works with higher end couture brands) (News.com)

- Digital footprints (more speculation on whether young people living their lives online will be regrettable. Plus Gen Y demanding 2.0 at work) (Reuters) (Yahoo! News)

- CosmoGIRL! done in the UK? (according to this story it is…Plus UK youth love their cell phones more than alcohol, chocolate, sex, tea, or coffee. ) (Press Gazette) (Textually)

- Watch 'Best Years' (The N's new show online before it premieres on air. Plus this week's Younger Viewers rating wrap up from Media Life Magazine.)

P.S. If you are coming to the Mashup from out of town, and haven't booked a room the Nikko is sold out. We have another room block at The Hilton directly across the street. Check out the logistics page for more details.
