Ypulse Essentials: NomadsLand, Gay 'City Of Heroes' Prom, Researching The Remix Culture

piczomypenguin.jpgPiczoMyPenguin (I continue to be impressed with what YA book publishers are doing online -- the latest: A cover design competition for Penguin titles on Piczo)

- And in other Penguin news (in case you live under that rock, Disney bought Club Penguin. And HandHeld Entertainment just bought eBaum's World) (New York Times, reg. required) (ClickZ)

- NomadsLand in alpha (I mentioned this more serious UGC site a while back. They are definitely geared towards compensating the filmmaker. Of course they remind me of Current TV, which you will start hearing more about since they have just engaged AKQA as their agency and will [finally] be marketing themselves.) (Media Post, reg. required)

- LGBT virtual prom (in City of Heroes. Plus the GTA haters can breath a sigh of relief since the game has been delayed. And there is a new video game designed to teach kids about immigration) (Marketing VOX) (USA Today) (AP via The UK Guardian)

- Ask.com now in Zwinky's shadow (Zwinktopia continues to blow up and earn dollars for IAC) (New York Times Bits blog)

- It's like 'the musical version of Rocky' (The "American Idol" movie) (Reality Blurred)

- CosmoGirl inherits SoapNet reality series 'Fashionista Diaries' (from defunct Jane. Plus FOX is ruling the summer with teens) (AdAge.com, reg. required) (Media Life Magazine)

- Researching the Remix Culture (the Center for Social Media at American University launches a big project to research and document "Copyright and Fair Use in Participatory Media.")

- Betty Spaghetty (I used to have a doll where you could wind up her back and her hair would get shorter and then pull it out to braid it and stuff. Kind of reminds me of this for some reason. Though she didn't have a tank, mini and bracelets on her wrists and ankles. Speaking of, The Bratz movie is getting pretty bad reviews. Thanks Steve!)

- Less liquor more wine and beer (ads in magazines and on TV) (MediaPost, reg. required)

- They'll accept your ads (if you offer them something for free -- new research on college kids and mobile ads) (Marketing VOX)

P.S. Friday fun from the Washington Post: Best High School Flicks.
