Ypulse Teen Tube Roundup

High School Musical sweeps Teen Choice AwardsMaybe we should call last night's "Teen Choice Awards" the "Tween Choice Awards" since "High School Musical" continued its reign of Disney domination (USA Today). The complete list of winners is here -- it gives you a sense of mainstream American teens' taste. As does this survey on teens and movies that makes my inner film snob cringe:

Among the fall/winter movies teens most want to see are "Saw IV," "National Treasure: Book of Secrets," "Mama's Boy," "Fred Claus," "I Am Legend," "Alvin and the Chipmunks" and "Enchanted." (Reuters)

In not so good news for Disney, a writer-producer is suing "the mouse" claiming that they stole his idea, which became the wildly successful "Hannah Montana." (Reuters)

Reality Blurred reports that MTV will air "The Life of Ryan," a reality series about a 17-year-old pro skater beginning tonight. And CBS continues to get a reality check with more buzz (is any buzz good buzz? We'll see) around its controversial "Kid Nation." (L.A. Times, reg. required). Multichannel News is reporting that The BBC will stream its teen series "Hollyoaks" on BBCamerica.com starting with two episodes on Tuesday, Sept. 4.

The kids' networks are pretty nimble when it comes to advertising. They may be on a diet when it comes to junk food ads, but there are evidently plenty of automotive, financial and real-estate ads to fill these spots (AdAge.com, reg. required). And old school cartoons ("Tom & Jerry"!) still rule on Saturday mornings (Media Life Magazine).

And finally, South Park's creators hired a very good lawyer to do their original contract with Viacom. They get half of all the profits from the upcoming joint venture focused on creating digital content they are launching with Comedy Central. (New York Times, reg. required)

Did you happen to watch the legalese at the end of Teen Choice? It stated the Top Four nominees were selected by popular vote... not the actual winners.
