Oh, there's outcry and concern. You are right on with your criticism of the ads themselves. And that's where we need to focus -- at the corporate level...
zak wanted you to know that:
Step Up Women's Network has been running a program for underserved teen girls in Los Angeles, meant to bolster their self-esteem and empower them to be healthy in mind and body. The program is also beginning to roll out in their Chicago and NYC chapters
Step Up partnered with Dove on a "Real Beauty" program. You can watch a short video on that program here.

That's how our society does things -- putting band aids on enormous problems instead of surgery at the root; treating victims instead of disciplining tormentors; offering self-esteem boosters instead of purging the cause in the first place. Why? Follow the money.

I think we also can't lose sight that we have to start somewhere and that's why I am hoping that the tangible outreach we are going to do over the next year will help generate a public outcry. Without support of grass roots groups and committed warriors for change - this campaign has nothing! Please check out the Campaign For Real Beauty and look at all the cool exercises girls and their moms can do together. You know I wouldn't be involved with anything that wasn't really trying to walk their talk. Trust me, I am as suspect of advertising and brands out there as well.
