Having once worked at AOL's Web Properties division (Netscape, Compuserve) where the threat of layoffs seemed to loom every six months or so, I really feel for the folks who are got their pink slips this week. Apparently, AOL's kids and teens services KOL and Red were gutted, which means there are lots of talented youth oriented web producers who will be looking for work soon...From the Cynopsis Kids newsletter:
KOL and RED, AOL's kid and teen services respectively, appear to have come to an end as AOL laid off the staff yesterday, as part of an overall 20% reduction in AOL staff. The news comes after months of rumors about the demise of KOL and RED. Will the kid-targeted service continue? According sources, there is but one KOL staffer who will remain on the job, with a handful staying on for a 60-day transition period.
