Ypulse Is Expanding Its Book Coverage

Allison DeckerI hinted that we were expanding our editorial coverage on Ypulse yesterday. Many of you told us on our reader survey that you were interested in more coverage of books and publishing as it relates to youth. Ironically, when I started Ypulse back in 2004, I roped in my oldest friend Alli Decker, who is also a children's librarian, to launch a blog with me -- it was called Yfiction and was all about YA fiction. I met Alli when we were C.I.T.s together at a YMCA camp in Maine (yes, we go that far back). Then life sort of happened. A new life that is -- she had her first baby. Now that her son is two, Alli has come back on board to help us expand our books/publishing coverage.

Here's what we plan to cover related to book publishing:

- New titles for and about tweens, teens and early twentysomethings
- Book giveaways and interviews with authors (fiction and non-fiction)
- Innovative ways publishers and authors are leveraging technology to market their youth oriented titles
- eBooks and digital publishing for youth
- Youth literacy efforts
- What librarians are doing to bring youth into the libraries and get them reading
- More! We are open to your suggestions. Just let Alli know.

More about Alli:

"Hi. I'm a children's librarian and have been working with children and young adults for 15 years.

While getting an Ed. M at Harvard, I discovered my interest in literacy and specifically children's literature. Later as a teacher, however, I learned that rather than traditional classroom instruction, I was much more passionate about inspiring the love of reading. That's when I went back to school to be a librarian and earn my MLS. I wanted to work with a broader community and a wider age range. (I also just think libraries and librarians are way cool.)

In my previous position at Boston's citywide literacy campaign ReadBoston, I worked with teachers, public and school librarians, child care professionals, and parents. I specialized in literacy related issues and the incorporation of quality children's literature in literacy programming. My workshops included: Storytelling, Storytelling in the Classroom, Children's Literature 101, Creating Classroom Libraries, Wordless Books, and Picture Books for Young Adults.

In addition to teaching, I have worked at WGBH on Arthur, and Zoom, as the educational coordinator at an after-school program, and as the children's program manager at a domestic violence shelter."

For all of my readers who work in publishing or in the library space, you need to put Alli on your distribution lists, send her press releases, new books, catalogs and other updates. If you're an author, you can now contact Alli (alli @ ypulse.com) with your pitches as well. Our plan is to try out the coverage on Ypulse (you'll see Alli's posts twice a week), and if there is significant reader and advertiser interest, we will launch a separate Ypulse Books Channel. If you are a publisher interested in advertising your titles on Ypulse, please contact Charles Pelton.
