gURL.com has always been one of my favorite websites for teen girls. I love that it started as an NYU grad school project and even though it has been sold a few times, it has managed to retain much of its original look and feel as well as personality. Call it a coincidence, but just as I was preparing my remarks for the Sex Tech conference tomorrow morning, Karell Roxas, former Ypulse contributing editor and long-time gURL staffer, sent me an email about their new sex ed blog. gURL has always tackled girls' health and sexuality issues in a frank, fun way with a unique illustration style that lightens up more serious fare.
The blog already feels like a hit with lots of comments and discussion on topics like whether "teens are more slutty now than they used to be." In a time where teen pregnancy is being fetishized in certain Oscar nominated films (yes, I know it's a "fairy tale") and celebrity culture (and in a time when the teen pregnancy rate has actually gone up), any blog or site discussing these issues in a realistic way with teens is welcome.
