Ypulse Books Essentials: G. Neri @ The Brown Bookshelf, Vote And Read, Stay In School

gneri.jpgCheck out author G. Neri at the Brown Bookshelf (A "reluctant writer" describes his process and writing for boys.)

- Want to engage kids in the election? (Check out the new First Daughter books as well as these titles as well as this list from Publisher's Weekly.)

- Stay in School, NOT (17-year-old high-school student Isamu Fukui is the latest in the teen-author world. His book Truancy is an action-packed science fiction story of rebellion and vengence. Sounds cool.) (Tor-Forge Books)

- Wizard's First Rule is going to the small screen (Terry Goodkind's awesome tale will be called 'The Sword of Truth'. Out next spring on ABC, and produced by Spider Man's Sam Raimi. Will Toby McGuire be involved? Pretty pleeease?) (Coming Soon.net)

- The great Robie H. Harris tours... (Blog tours, that is.) (School Library Journal)

- Lending the Kindle at libraries (And MP3 Players too...) (The Monkey Speaks)

- Handselling (A lengthy post of information and testimony about how independent bookstores/sellers CAN make an impact on book sales. IMHO, great news!) (A Fuse #8)

- We are buying books but not reading as much (Huh? This is something I've wondered about, too.) (Book Maven)

- Where the Wild Things Are (Writer Dave Eggars and music video darling Spike Jonz are collaborating to bring this fave classic to life. Not without tie-ins either. Dave Eggars is reportedly writing a novel for adults to be released in conjunction. Interesting.) (Publishers Weekly)

- 'Teen tech week, not' and 'No time? What if it's part of collection development?' (Two great posts from YALSA about celebrating Teen Tech Week)

"- We are buying books but not reading as much (Huh? This is something I've wondered about, too.) (Book Maven)"

This is me... I'll read up about a subject, discover an interesting-sounding book, find a bargain copy on eBay/Amazon Marketplace (or put it on my Swaptree want list) then by the time it arrives I don't have the time to read it so it ends up lingering on the shelf.

I probably read no more than I used to, but I buy (and sell...) a lot more books.

Thanks for the link to my First Daughter books, A and A.

Readers may also enjoy the main character's take on the campaign -- Sameera (aka Sparrow) is tracking the hype on the real First Kid wannabes at sparrowblog.com.
