Ypulse Book Essentials: Tokyopop Bursts With Color, 'Clunky' E-Books, TikaTok

Orange TokyoP.jpgTokyopop gets color (Remember "getting your colors done" in the 80's? My mom took me, I'm a spring.) (Publisher's Weekly)

- Great discussion of e-books (The Monkey Speaks responds to a Library Journal article called "What if you ran your bookstore like a library?")

- TikaTok (enables kids, and their parents, to self-publish their stories and illustrations. Cool idea and a fun way to empower young writers.) (Izzy Neis)

- Sweet Valley High is baaaaack (Memories...Nadra over at Racialicious reminisces about all of the ways SVH encouraged and promoted sexism, racism, and looksism back in the 80's.)

- A five-book and multi-patform deal between BBC and StarFarm (based on the Kaimira series, the world will be set in a post-apocalyptic future where animal, mineral, and vegetable will be at odds with one another.)

- Awesome article (and interview at Omnivoracious with Shaken and Stirrred's Gwenda Bond. A big fan and proponent of YA literature, Bond offers a wealth of wisdom and tons suggested titles.)

- A very fine review (of Ursula Le Guin's Lavinia...This could be a nice way to introduce mature teens to The Aeneid.) (L.A. Times, reg. required)

- Attention educators: (First Book has a deal for you!) (School Library Journal)

- Barefoot Books (Last year one of Inc. Magazine's top 5000 private businesses, now a new boutique in Manhattan. Congratulations Barefoot Books! When I was at ReadBoston, I worked closely with this company on a couple of projects and thought they were FABULOUS! Their books are beautiful, thoughtful, fun and elegant. Check them out.) (Publisher's Weekly)
