Ypulse Essentials: 'Friday Night Lights' Returns, Marketers Try 2 Be Kewl, Paramount Goes 'There'

ALot2Lose.comALot2Lose.com (The Century Council [which represents companies in the alcohol industry] posts winning PSAs showing what happens when your drunken escapades end up on a social networking site...)

- 'Friday Night Lights' is back...sort of (it's only on Direct TV, which I don't have, at least if you want to watch new episodes in the fall. They will air on NBC starting in February. I hope they end up online) (MediaPost, reg. required)

- Targeting tween girls (more on how "personal care" like straightening and highlighting your hair, is beginning at much younger ages) (New York Times, reg. required)

- Trying 2 hard 2 be 2 Kewl (ugh. Marketers embrace texting lingo) (WSJ)

- MySpace is the new MTV (people are saying with its music service launching sometime next week. I think it would be more the old MTV, the one that focused more on music, no? Plus can the UK regulate MySpace and Facebook when they're based in the U.S.?) (L.A. Times, reg. required) (ZDNet)

- Slate V debunks online predator myths (this is a good one to send to parents/educators)

- Design your own video game (Dare to be Digital [in the UK] launches its design competition aimed at young gamers)

- Paramount goes 'There' (will distribute clips inside There.com. Plus Stardoll lets girls design their own virtual and real Ts. And Nick is creating more virtual worlds, including one for "Spongebob" and offering a choice between ad supported and subscription) (MediaWeek) (Virtual World News) (Hollywood Reporter)
