Ypulse Seeking Youth Advisory Board Members
Posted by anastasia on 06-24-2008This has been a long time coming — over the past four years, we've had teen bloggers post on Ypulse (Julia, Katie, Kate and Monica) as well as several guest posts (and now staff, i.e. Casey!) who are indeed part of the generation Ypulse covers. Still, it's not enough. As I continue the slow march toward my late 30s (I'm 36 until September), I feel the need, no the imperative, to be getting more consistent feedback from youth.
To this end, I am hoping to form a Ypulse Youth Advisory Board made up of 10 young people between the ages of 13 and 24 from diverse backgrounds and geographic locations. We can't afford to pay our advisory board members at this time, but we will come up with fun incentives (review copies of books/music/, other fun stuff from our partners, advertisers) and most importantly, the opportunity to publish on Ypulse (building a body of published work and having your photo/bio on the site), network with other advisory board members (we'll set up a private Ning or Facebook group), and the potential for college or career references and recommendations from me. There may also be opportunities to attend conferences or other events as "press."
I'm looking for a group that can meet twice a month for an hour virtually (in some sort of chat environment) and offer feedback on Ypulse, ideas for us as we grow, observations of trends bubbling up through your own peer networks as well as write occasional posts.
If you are between the ages of 13 and 24 or if you know a great candidate, please send them this post, and have them fill out the short application below and email it to me.
Name:
Age:
Hometown:
Gender:
Race/ethnicity (optional, but helpful in trying to create a diverse group):
Hobbies/interests:
Writing experience (not mandatory, but helpful):
What can you contribute to Ypulse as a Youth Advisory Board member? (or why you?)
That's it! Please help spread the word — would love to have a board formed by the end of the summer. If you don't make it onto our first advisory board, we will keep your application as an alternate in case someone needs to drop out. We will also recruit new advisory board members each year (we ask advisers to make a one-year commitment).
