Ypulse Essentials: Starburst Embraces Sharing, IconoCommunities

Note from Anastasia: Alli just arrived in Maine (I'm so jealous, eat some lobster for me!) and will not be posting over @ Ypulse Books until Friday.

OnTheBubbleOnTheBubble (Sierra Mist and Comedy Central alum Adam de la Pena are behind new animated webisodes -- appear to be aimed at the college/Aqua Teen crowd. They will premiere, of course, at ComicCon. Cute Oddity is also debuting a new fashion line for teens at ComicCon. If any Ypulse readers are in San Diego, I would love to run a guest post about the event!) (BrandWeek) (MarketWatch)

- More on 'Gossip Girl's' latest ad campaign (from AdAge.com, reg. required, on co-opting your critics, desperate or brilliant?)

- Starburst 2.0 (candy brand connects the act of sharing a Starburst with sharing via social media, sponsors bloggers/vloggers and launches a YouTube channel) (DM News)

- Hollywood Undead (a band that has never performed live, has been chosen by MySpace fans to headline the Virgin Mobile Fest)

- Verizon wants to make you a Bollywood star (with a Dancejam-like competition where the winner wins a trip to India and a chance to be in a Bollywood movie. If you click through to the video site -- not too many views happening....Plus Symantec is offering a big scholarship for the winner of its CyberSmackdown competition)

- Kids virtual world Dizzywood (continues to partner with schools and non-profits, latest is the YMCA)

- Six Flags, Seventeen & Declare Yourself (team up to register youth to vote in between roller coaster rides)

- Aqua Media Direct repping teen sites (never heard of this company before but the following "teen" sites [mostly MySpace layout and graphics sites] evidently have tons of traffic: MyGirlySpace, Glitter Graphics, Revolution MySpace, Screensavers.com, CheckOutMyInk.com and TheHolidaySpot - who knew teens were so interested in international holidays?)

- IconoCommunities (marketing agency Iconoculture launches what looks like a premium moderated Ning full of teens, i.e. online focus group + reports)

- Want to throw your kid a Dora party? (not so fast, you may committing trademark infringement) (WSJ, subscription required)

- Wrestling goes PG (trying to attract younger viewers by becoming even more "family friendly") (Variety)

- How real is 'American Teen'? (evidently it feels to contrived to some, but it's kind of a reality tv/documentary hybrid, I would say. I still liked it) (L.A. Times, reg. required)

- Is Gen Y really 'color blind'? (interesting discussion over at The Washington Post, reg. required)

- Rigid parenting (may lead to increased teen sexual activity...Plus about 3 percent of 12- to 17-year-old girls are physically or sexually assaulted by a boyfriend or date, according to a new survey) (Center for the Advancement of Health) (Reuters)

P.S. A little bird told me that DoSomething kicked Alloy's butt in a kickball game yesterday 18 to 6. Ouch.

P.P.S. Dr. Dre has new headphones! (USA Today)
